I was driving through a parking lot last week when I spotted some seagulls just standing around. The group was an odd sight in the middle of the city, where pigeons usually rule.

I decided to stop and snap a picture with my phone and as I got closer I noticed how beautiful the birds were. In that moment I began to imagine designing a room’s color scheme based on the colors of the seagulls’ feathers. Then the absurdity of what I was doing hit me and I thought: you know you’re a design addict when one glance at a bird makes you conjure up the decor of a room!

Of course I’ve seen that color combination many times before, but I haven’t thought about it in a while as other hues are more trendy right now. However, ever since I saw those birds up close I haven’t stopped thinking about the serenity of the soft grey with the crisp white, the hit of black for some sophistication and the bright yellow accent for some whimsy.

The next day I spotted this new wax bar (Waxon) on Yonge Street with its own take on the combination.

This pillow cover from kaboodle.com is another way to incorporate the seagull color scheme.

Although I find them all very beautiful, these rooms don’t quite match the one I’ve had in mind, so I guess I’m going to have to get working on bringing my own seagull-inspired vision to life.
