Chairs, Chairs, Chairs!

001 Today is a bright and sunny day, perfect for a drive out to Ajax, home of the Sklar Peppler furniture outlet where they’re having a big sale. It was my first time out there and I was very pleasantly surprised at the great quality, wide selection and reasonable prices.  Most of all, I was inspired by the beautiful upholstery fabric used on the chairs in the showroom.

The pink, orange and white chair above first caught my eye.  So fresh and fun, it would make a great statement in any room, but really so would any of these…   Continue reading »

Christmas 2012

Christmas 2012

Yes, I’m well aware that it’s January 8th and Christmas is officially over but, truth be told, I’m not quite ready to take down the tree.  You might be surprised to hear that it’s not for lack of time, and that I’m actually not even much of a Christmas reveler.  It’s simply that I love having the tree with all its green branches, softly glowing lights and sparkling ornaments in the living room. I find it really brightens up our long, dark evenings.

Happy new year to you all!

Are you enjoying the change of pace the holidays bring? I’ve been taking the opportunity to catch up on some much needed rest as well as doing some major organizing and cleaning. There’s still a lot to go through in the basement, however the top two floors are in great shape. Not the most exciting way to spend the holidays I know, but I feel as though I’ve gotten off to a reasonable start for 2013.

Cyber Monday Blues

Last Monday was my Cyber Monday, the day I placed an on-line order for an early Christmas present for our front entrance. In an effort to jazz up this small area, for months I had been searching for an over-sized round mirror without an over-sized price tag.  I finally decided on a mirror from Overstock.com which had the best combination of looks and price and placed the order on Monday.

Happier at Home

I’ve just started reading Happier at Home by Gretchen Rubin.  It’s the follow-up to The Happiness Project which I haven’t read, but is a best-seller and, from all accounts, an inspirational read.

This book is somewhat of a memoir covering nine months in the life of the author as she embarks on making changes to her home in her quest to become happier.  ”Of all the elements of a happy life,” she writes, “my home is the most important.”

DIY: Illuminated Initial Art

Tags

I came up with this DIY project on the weekend when I was trying to think of a fun, original and personalized gift for a special little someone. As you can see, it’s an illuminated initial on canvas and, since it couldn’t have been simpler to make, I thought I’d share the how-to with you all.

Have you ever heard of Fairy Gardens?

Tags

Have you ever heard of fairy gardens?  They’re miniature gardens, indoors or out, which appear to have very small inhabitants, like fairies.  You can usually find them at the foot of a shady tree, in a secluded corner of the garden or in a container.  The thought is that creating an inviting little spot with pretty flowers, small decorations and a resting place will attract magical fairies to visit.
